We land on July 23 in Frankfurt. We need to be in Venice on the 27th give or take a day. I need a simple itinerary. Thinking a stop in Munich for 2/3 days then fly to Venice. Would like to take the train if not too expensive. 2 children with us 12 & 14. Does anyone recommend hostels when traveling with children?

There are four EC day trains per day from Munich to Verona, and, if you book well ahead, you can get Europa-Spezial fares as low as €39 per adult on those trains. Those are advance purchase, date and train specific, non-refundable fares (like airplanes) so you have to commit to a day. Your children under 15 travel with you for free.
Those fares are only for trains that terminate in Germany, so you will have to purchase tickets from Verona to Venice separately from Italian Rail.
