How important is it to book hotels with secure parking? What is secure parking? We're driving around FR for 13 days. And it seems all hotels and b&b's mention it.
'fire and manuever and close combat' -- see how naturally it all flows together once you get the hang of it?
I wouldn't worry about how secure the parking was, just that you had a place without having to worry about feeding a meter of some kind.
depending on where you're driving to. i suppose certain area has higher breakin rate, but i don't think it's that bad - i drove for 2 weeks between paris-normandy-louire-bordeaux-salart, never a problem. as far you don't have any valuable items in your car and lock it properly you're ok - just like in Seattle or any other big town in the US.
'secure' parking generally refers to a parking garage or a private lot. More that your parking place will be available than armed guards patroling the perimeter.
It's one of those terms that doesn't quite translate to North American English correctly
Good one James,
As an Air Force officer, however, I can assure you we would never consider a building "secured" unless it had high speed internet and HDTV. :)
Peter,
The reason hotels mention it is (like any US city) parking can be in very short supply. It's a definite bonus for lodging to include parking when you're driving.
OK, off topic, but here's another related military joke: A Marine is returning fire high in the mountains of Afghanistan and says "This sucks, but I love the Marines. An army soldier is digging a ditch in Louisiana and says "This sucks, I hate the army." A seaman is scrubbing the deck for the third time in a week and says "This sucks, I hate the navy." An airmen, meanwhile, arrives in his motel room ans says "What, no Blue Ray player, this sucks, I hate the airforce!"
....and how can you tell which one's a Marine? He's the guy with a size twenty-three neck ...... and a size one hat.
....and for all three of you joke-telling idiots.... and to nudge the topic back to transportation....
Is there any way AMC will let you slip a bike onto a Space-A flight -- without cornering the AC and giving the secret-pilot's-handshake?
I know this ain't the place, but I've been digging on this for a month and gotten no concrete answer nor anybody that's seen it done. Folding-bike-in-a suitcase won't work.
In a small medieval town, secure parking is a huge plus. It means you won't have to drive all over the place looking for a place to park.
p.s. I enjoyed the jokes!
