I'm wondering if the Madrid card is a good option. I found a hostel in the center of things, so I will be walking to most things. I will be in Madrid for 7 nights.

If you are looking mainly for transportation, there is a 7-day travel card that is a bit under 25euro, for unlimited, 7 calendar days of metro/bus in the central zone.
Yes, I see you say you will be walking to most places but Madrid's sights are fairly widely spread out. Indeed, we too generally walk our feet off (!!) but here we have opted for the ability to get from end-to-end and still have some energy left. Also, it is HOT mid-day so having transport can help there as well.

I purchase the meto/bus pass each time I am there (about every 6 months) when attending and participating in the www.vaughantown.com program - English instruction. Not sure that the other is really a good deal based on what I have heard others say. It gives you admission discounts to some of the places I understand.
