We'll be staying in Frankfurt for just 1 night, our last night on vacation. We like to splurge on a great room, but searching for 5-star (or even 4 star) hotels hasn't proven fruitful.
Any suggestions for an excellent place to stay, preferably not too far from the Main airport? We'd consider anything less than USD 500 per night.

Frankfurt's most traditional 5 star hotel with old world charme, plenty of VIPs etc is the Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof. Our latest addition to the 5 Star szene and therefore very fashionable one is Rocco Forte's Villa Kennedy. The downtown Sheraton is currently being renovated and converted into a Westin Grand an will be available from early fall. If you prefer small, boutique type hotels look for Gerbermühle. Just check www.hrs.de or www.hotel.de for great rates and more 5 star hotels. We've got quite a few ;-) Frankfurt also has got an excellent restaurant and bar szene, one of the nicest collection of exclusive museums and art galleries along the river's embankment.
We like the airport Sheraton. Very comfortable beds and the most elaborate breakfast we have ever seen. I think it is about 250 euros a night. And right at the airport. Also has a gourmet restaurant for dinner, but we usually eat at the bierstube downstairs in the airport itself for one last schnitzel.
We always get a good night's sleep, which is important before a long flight.
i think I misnamed the hotel. It is the airport hilton, not the sheraton. sorry
