We're ending a cruise in Barcelona on April 30 next year and are considering extending our return home by 5 days. We'd probably spend 3 days in a beach town and 2 days in Barcelona. Any suggestions for the beach town? Collioure is 3.5 hrs away by train ... anything closer??

Sitges is a pretty little town about an hour down the coast from BCN. Also, a nice mix of modern and traditional. The whole coast is pretty (well, almost all of it, anyway) so you really can't go too far wrong. Personally, for a 2.5 hour displacement, I'd chose L'Escala, but that's just because I like the mix of Roman ruins, fishing village and mountains.

There's Girona, which is about an hour away from Barcelona if you're using public transport. I haven't been there myself, but I've read good things about it.
