5 Days in Germany--Frieburg--Frankfurt Renting Car--Suggestions?

Arriving in Frieburg June 22 via Train From Wengen, we leave Franfurt on June 28. We made reservations in Rothenburg od for 2 nts begining 6-22. We would Like to See Rhine/Mosel areas also. Should we try a night in Munich on 6-22, pushing Rothenburg od back a day. It seems like we will just head up the RR to our destination and would miss a lot. Last night 6-27 will be Heidelburg. Thank you

If you haven't already done so, get a good Germany Michelin map at a book store and check out your routes to your destinations. Wengen to Freiburg is a 3:45 train ride. From Freiburg to Munich is another 4-4.5 hrs. or Freiburg to Rothenburg is 3 hrs. So, June 22-evening in Munich. June 23-Munich to Rothenburg (2 1/2 hrs.). June 24-Rothenburg June 25-Rothenburg to Bacharach (Rhein) June 26-Bacharach June 27-Bacharach backtrack to Heidelberg June 28 Depart Frankfurt

Some other alternatives would be you could spend 2 nights in Munich and only 1 in Rothenburg. Or, you could bypass Munich altogether. It's not that easy to get to from Freiburg to Munich--the mountains get in the way.

Do you have to be in Heidelberg the night before your flight? If so, you would be backtracking from the Rhein area. Ideally, stay/stop in Heidelberg on your way from Rothenburg to the Rhein. Then, depending on your flight time, drive from the Rhein area to the airport. Or, you could stay in Mainz the night before. I've also stayed in Rudesheim the night before because it's an easy drive to the airport. Where are you turning your car in? I don't believe you have time for both the Rhein and the Mosel areas on this trip. Have fun on your trip!

I like to get a good feel for a place that I visit. I have had no joy visiting Munich for short stays. I think that it would probably be a great place to explore for a longer period.

As already mentioned, Munich does not naturally lie along the route from Freiburg im Breisgau to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. I would be tempted to explore some place along the way.
