I expect to arrive in Munich in early afternoon on a Monday in Aug. I've booked Hotel Uhland for 2 nights and am contemplating doing a Mike's bike tour and a trip to Dachau while there. What else is a must see? Right now, I plan to go to Hohenschwangau on Wed via train and leave midday on Friday from Fussen to return to the home of friends near Mainz. While there, the one for-sure is paragliding over Neuschwanstein. Other than that I'd like to tour one or more of the castles (Neuschwanstein/ Hohenschwangau/Linderhof) and, if doable, spend some time in gorgeous scenery/picturesque and/or historic sites...churches, monasteries, etc. Obviously, I don't have the weeks I'd love to spend there. What would you prioritize, given the time I have and need to use public transit?
We took a day trip to Salzburg and it was one of trip highlights. We really wanted to visit Andechs. We did all three castles in Fussen and they were neat. The town of Fussen was beautiful and lovely pastry shops with these huge layered pastry balls that were fabulous. Salzburg Fussen- paragliding, castle tours, and strolling Dachau
Andech Monastery Remember Munich doesn't have as much "old world charm" as other areas of Europe because it was all rebuild after the world. The Marienplatz is nice. Enjoy!
