We are landing in Frankfurt on 5/31. Going to be in Fulda for a couple of days - Then to Amsterdam, Bruges, Cergy (suburb of Paris - need to fit in Normandy somewhere) then to Rome, Venice and heading back to Frankfurt to depart on June 18th. We're driving for all of this. I'd appreciate suggestions on what to see and how much time we should be allowing. Afraid this is WAY to much to be taking in in a short time - HELP with suggestions please. Thanks
Carolyn,
Since you asked for "suggestions", my first suggestion would be to use the trains rather than driving. You're covering a huge area in about a 17-day time frame, and there's no way you'll be able to do that as quickly by car. Using fast trains such as the TGV (300 kmH) would not only provide a more relaxing trip, but would be a more efficient travel method.
If you're going to be visiting specific smaller towns that aren't well served by train, a combination of rail and car would be good. However, for the longer segments, rail is the best choice.
Good luck!
You really won't need a car in Bruges either. We left ours parked in a garage for the 3 days we were there. Everything is pretty much accessible on foot. You might want to consider picking up the car after Bruges, taking the train there from Amsterday. We went to Normandy after Bruges, just drove along the north coast. You really do need a car in Normandy, and need at least 2 full days. You could go to Cergy after Normandy, then head south into Italy, and back to Frankfurt.
Enjoy your trip.
