Favorite place to eat

I want to compile a list of possible places to eat while my husband and I are in Europe this summer.

I would love it if you would share your favorite places to eat (snack or meal), on or off the beaten path, preferably not too expensive, though we do plan to splurge a few times so feel free to let me know your favorite "not cheap" place as well.

Please give me as much info about the place as posssible: why you love it, what type of food they serve, approximate price (if known), and especially location (address is great if you have it!)

We will be in Paris, Barcelon, and Madrid in late May/ early June.

Thanks!

I would check out some travel guide books with restaurant listings... Rick Steves' books, etc. Often included is price, location, type of food and other info about what to expect.

And here is also a website I plan on using when I visit Paris this May:

Right, I have R.S. books and a few other guidebooks, but the travellers on here have such great taste and are so well travelled that I want to know if anyone is willing to share their favorite places.
thanks!

Sometimes it is just more fun to be "adventurous" and try a restaurant that no one has recommended, then you can tell other travellers about it. Make your very own trail.

Rather than spend time trying to find a specific restaurant/cafe that someone else thinks is great, just stroll and check out menus and ambiance. There are so many choices in each of the cities you're visiting in all price ranges. Don't forget to pick up some items to picnic when you find a park that's appealing. You can also ask at your hotel or B&B for nearby recommendations. Theirs may well be a relative who will give you extra nice service when you mention the name of the person who recommended them.

In Barcelona, you should have a meal at Quatre Gats (sp?). The food's pretty good; prices, not bad, based on our 2002 experience. The main thing, however, is the ambience. Lots of Art Deco touches. It was a hangout for writers and artists, like Picasso. If you go, don't miss a visit to the Lady's Room. No pun intended. The restaurant is located in the Bari Gotic, and I'm sure any hotel staff will know its location. BTW, a money-saver is to eat your main meal midday. Many restaurants offer a very good value set menu at that time, and/or their prices are lower for regular items.

Thanks Steve,
I saw the link you listed on another post and already copied the article into my notes. I want to try some of those out as well.
