My husband and I would like to travel to Spain and Portugal this summer. Though I saw Rick's 22 day suggested tour, we don't have quite that much time. We only have about 12 or 13 days. Would you have any suggestions as to how to best plan a trip like this, what to see, as well as something somewhat financially okay for us? Thanks a bunch.

With only 12 or 13 days, I'd suggest picking three or four locations in Spain and Portugal, perhaps Madrid, Barcelona, either Sevilla or Granada and Lisbon. Open-jaw flights would be the most efficient travel method.
You might check your local Library to see if they have a copy of either the Spain or Portugal Guidebooks. The books will have a wealth of information on not only Itineraries and sightseeing ideas, but also budget accommodations, how to get between locations, etc.

Did a similar trip Sept. 2009 and I can share my personal itinerary to start with in your plans. I am one of those DIY travelers and thanks to message boards online I was able to put together a doable one. We had a great time and at a budget that is within what we were willing to spend. I am more of a mid, boutique hotel, bed and breakfast type of lodging person. I sent you a note separately with my email address if you wish to see my itinerary and hotel suggestions.
