Slovenia

Has anyone ever gone to Slovenia? I just discovered some of its beauty around Lake Bled when I was playing some music on YouTube. Suddenly, there was this beautiful lake with this island in it, a driveway leading from the water into the island and a castle on it. After doing some research, I learned that it is in Slovenia in Lake Bled. I was just wondering if anyone had traveled into Slovenia and would share some experiences about what it is like. Thanks.

Thanks for the info so far to all. Slovenia looks like a great destination for our next trip to Europe. We were in Germany and Switzerland last fall but I am already wanting to return to Europe soon. Thanks for the links and the pics.

Slovenia is one of my favorite places. I find Rick's book to be a bit sparse. Check out the Lonely Planet Slovenia book. In my experience it's more in depth, and helpful.

Slovenia is a super easy country to drive. FYI. Makes a nice driving vacation. For me, Bled was a little too touristy, but worth seeing. The Karst region and the coast are definitely worth it.

Google: Postojna, Predjama, and Skocjan to check out the caves.

We based ourselves in Ljubljana for 4 nights and had a great time. We rented a car for one day and spent it at Lake Bled--the walk around the lake is beautiful.

The market in Ljubljana is fun, the restaurants are excellent, and the city with many outdoor cafes is really wonderful!

My wife and I visited parts of Slovenia 2 years ago -- it was largely a blast. Bled is incredible -- we had a great time there and stayed at the Mulej farm as someone else did. It is a little bit out of town, but you can walk into town without too much strain. Going around the lake, up to the Castle and swimming or getting a rowboat to take out to the island is wonderful.

We also really loved Skocjan cave and enjoyed some time at the stables. Piran was also fun; I wish we had stayed there more time, but the parking in Piran was terrible. We didn't spend that much time in Llubljana, but we enjoyed the downtown area, the markets, etc. It is an interesting city.

I would also point out that you might think about flying into Italy. You could start near Venice, see that incredible city, and then head east into Slovenia.

Enjoy your trip!
