Any suggestions on a nice hotel in Vienna? We will be winding up our trip there. Also we have never been there and any suggestions on what to see would be appreciated. We have 3 nights there and will fly home from Vienna. Thanks.

Hi Anne
You will love Vienna!
We were there last summer for 3 nights and stayed at the Hotel Alstadt
http://www.altstadt.at/en/altstadt-vienna/index.html
It was recommended to us by some friends of ours from Germany who travel to Vienna alot. We found it to be a great place to stay. Charming boutique hotel with some very unique artistic rooms along some less artistic/more traditional style rooms depending on your likes (we went more traditional). The staff was wonderful and really went out of their way to make us comfortable. Food was good and afternoon tea a great break after a day of touring.
The hotel is a few blocks away from public transportation and the Ringstrasse where within it's boundaries you will find many of the sights you will be seeking. Take Rick's tour book and try the walking tour. Takes you on a wonderful path throughout the town and away from many of the tourists who don't use the book and miss alot of the sights. The museums are amazing, check out the Hofburg Palace, the Opera House, and don't forget Sisi's museum. You can use public transportation to get to the Schönbrunn Palace.
Also, a fun evening would be to use public transportation to go out to the Grinzing area of Vienna. Wine country. Plenty of places to eat some great food, enjoy some wine and music.
Speaking of music, when are you going? Music, music everywhere, but alot of the biggies are not around during July and August.
Enjoy your trip!

Thanks so much, we are going in in Sept - we'll be in Vienna the end of the second week. I'll certainly check out the hotel you recommended. Thanks again.

Anne, we stayed at the Best Western Kaiserhof. It was very elegant compared to places we generally stay. However, the price was reasonable. The included breakfast was incredible: the usual plus bacon, eggs, champagne, etc. To be fair, we reserved a double and received a free upgrade, so our HUGE room was larger than standard. However, I would guess that the standard rooms are very nice. For specific time period pricing, you should contact the hotel. It is about 4 blocks from the opera house and about 2 blocks from a subway station.
Another option you may want to consider is using Priceline.com for Vienna. We'll be in Vienna in a few weeks and bid $90 for a 4-star hotel in the City Center. We ended up with Le Meridien Vienna (next to the Opera House) and the total rate (including tax) is $104/night (about €76). Their lowest advertised rate for the same dates is €138/night.
I used the website BetterBidding.com before going on Priceline to get an idea of the hotels we might get and what price range we should be bidding in.
Just know that when using Priceline, hotels are non refundable so it might be wise to wait until closer to your departure date before booking, if that is a route you are interested in taking.
Good luck!
