Itinerary draft #2. Before, we were planning on 24 days but we decided we had to go to Greece so we added a week. We found some cheap roundtrip flights from Rome to Athens and we just had to. This itinerary hits every major city each of us (mid 20s married couple) wants to see.
5/2 - Cruise ship drops us in Barcelona, 3 nights
5/5 - Train from Barcelona to Paris the night before OR flight this morning, 5 nights (1 day side trip - London)
5/10 – Day in Paris, night train to Munich, 4 nights (1 day side trip - Fuessen)
5/15 – Train to Salzburg 1st thing, 1 night
5/16 – Either morning or night train today to Venice, 3 nights
5/20 – Train to Florence, 3 nights (1 day side trip - either Best of Tuscany tour or Siena)
5/23 – Train to Rome, 3 nights
5/26 – Fly to Athens, 3 nights
5/29 – Train (?), bus, or car to Nafplio (stop at Corinth and/or Mycenae on the way), 3 nights
6/1 – Fly to Rome, 1 night
6/2 – Fly to JFK for a bit to visit family before home to LAX
We could possibly add 1 more day to the itinerary but I think that is it. I wanted to give the big cities atleast 3 nights (exception London) and do a couple of 1 day side trips. In Greece, we would love to do some of the islands (Mykonos, Paros, Santorini) but Athens, Corinth, and Nafplio seemed a better fit for the time we have. My husband said as long as we visit Athens and Corinth, he’s good this trip, and I personally love what I’ve seen on Nafplio. So, what do you think? What would you suggest that could possibly refine to maximize our time there but still visit our desired cities?
