We will be in Nice for a month. Is it worth going to Corsica for a night or two? Any recommendations?
We spent several entire vacations on Corsica and it's just one of the most beautiful places in the entire Mediterranean. From Nice take the ferry boat to Calvi (http://www.schoeffengrunder.de/resources/Calvi04.jpg) and make this your base. The atmosphere at night in the harbour and the narrow alleys of the old town and castle are magnicient. Food is great and the culture is a mix of Southern French, rural Italian and pirates of the 19th century ;-). The West coast of the island is wild, with stunning mountains, cliffs etc. The East is rather flat with sandy beaches (although Calvi bay has got miles and miles of sandy beaches - Nice doesn't have a single inch of it). From Calvi do daytrip to Galeria and drive up the Fango river (http://images.google.de/images?hl=de&source=hp&q=fango+korsika&gbv=2&aq=f&oq=) Swimming and diving there is most amazing and quite unique. There's much, much more to see and do on Corsica but since you're only condiering a few nights stick with the NW-coast, my personal favorite.
