Does anyone know how early they start running on a Friday and will they be running on Good Friday? We just bought tickets to Munich and will be flying home on Good Friday but I wasn't sure if the S/U bahn trains would be running.
Karen, hier is a website for the U-Bahn schedule in Munich. I pulled it up in German but there's a little English flag in the upper right corner.

The way it's set up, you have to plug in a date and time. This link is the home page. http://www.mvg-mobil.de/ The info is for U-Bahn, bus and tram.
I'm 99.9% sure the trains will be running on Good Friday. Also, there's an airport bus behind the main railway station if all else fails. Costs around 9 Euro, takes about 45 min. I stopped by the day before my flight home and asked a driver about the schedule. It worked out fine.
Here's the S-Bahn website:

The Fahrplanauskunft (Schedule Information) is on the home page, on the left. When you plug in your dates, remember that the Germans use day/month/year.
It may be too early to get Good Friday (Karfreitag) info. By the way, Haltestelle means Station/Stop; Datum is Date and Zeit is Time. You probably know this. Best regards, Anna
Many people confuse the U-Bahn and the S-Bahn in Munich because the S-Bahn runs underground in the downtown area. It is the S-Bahn that goes out to the airport. The underground station at the Hbf is under the street on the north side. You get to it from the back LH (viewed from the tracks) corner of the open shed area of the Hbf. Looks for the signs with the green circle with a white 'S'. S-Bahn run both ways from the Hbf to the airport (Flughafen). The S8 runs in the direction of the Ostbahnhof; the S1 goes towards Pasing. If you take the S1, be sure to be on the correct end (back) of the train since it splits at Neufahrn and the front end goes to Freising.
It looks like the S8 starts regular (every 20 min) service at about 3:18 (arr Flughafen 4:05). The S1 starts service at 40 min intervals at 3:45, but doesn't run at 20 min intervals until just after 5:00. After that there is a train in one direction or the other about every 10 min. The trip takes about 45 min, either way from the Hbf. From Marienplatz, it's a little shorter via the S8.
The MVV website is at www.mvv-muenchen.de, tells you everything about Munich transit, and can display in English.
