4 nights in or near Arles

We'll be arriving by car on September 16, using this area as a home base for seeing the surrounding area. Have checked into Rick's recommended accommodations and many are not available. As we will be on the move most of the time, we do not wish to spend large amounts on a room, preferring to spend on better meals. Would greatly appreciate your recommendations on accommodations in Arles or the surrounding area. Am researching on TripAdvisor as well.
Thank you!!

I stayed at the Hotel Regence in Arles. It wasn't expensive, but was well located and had free parking.

In 2006 I stayed at the Hôtel de l'Amphithéâtre http://www.hotelamphitheatre.fr/, which was fine and well-priced. At that time it was in Rick's book. I believe it has been removed from the book since, but I'm not sure why, so do double check more current reviews. Unless it's changed dramatically, I'd stay there again. I wouldn't want to have to drive there, though, as it's in the middle of narrow and somewhat tangled streets. Since you plan to have a car, you may want to find a hotel outside of Arles itself.

Since you don't have a reservation in Arles yet, I feel safe to say that I could not wait to get out of that city. I would recommend st remy as a base to travel from. We stayed at le mas carrasins last year in may, as I remember it seemed quite reasonable. Enjoy your trip!

We enjoyed Hotel du Musee in Arles in late May. It's well located, pretty, and comfortable. You may reserve a parking space nearby. In St. Remy we stayed at Hotel Sous les Figuiers, a lovely retreat. Parking is provided and it's a very short walk into town where there is a lively Market Day on Wednesdays, numerous restaurants to choose from, and the don't miss spot of St. Paul-de-Mausole where Van Gogh was hospitalized and completed 143 paintings. These works are represented by prints hung around the grounds. Les Baux, and another don't miss experience, Carrieres de Lumieres, is nearby.

Frederick, We love Arles and have been several times. Hotel l'Ampitheatre we've stayed at several times, the last time in 2006 and this year for the first time we stayed at l'Hotel de la Muette. We like both very much but we really enjoyed la Muette; Brigitte, Alain, everyone was so friendly and helpful.
