Looking for some advice on how best to plan day trips from a home base of Zurich. Beside Lucerne, what are some other reasonable options?
I spend about 4-7 days a year in Zurich. The best guide to help you is Cityspots Zurich (Thomas Cook), about $11. The Michelin and Eyewitness Travel guides are also OK, but not as specific with information on Zurich and nearby places to visit. I'd recommend up the Rigi railway, walk down to the cable car, and the lake steamer into Lucerne. Pilatus is also beautiful, but lacks the steamer portion.
Thanks so much!
I have been to Zurich six times and about to go for #7. Will take one day trip to Basel and hopefully take the tram over to France just to say I did it. Augusta Roric is my aim in that area. The Roman ruins. Lucerne is a must for everyone. I love to take the steamer down to Rapperswill, have some coffee and take the train back to Zurich. If you use the rail system web site you can recon the time needed to travel to Schaffhausen or Interlaken, etc.
