Hello,
There will be four female college students traveling through Europe for 14 days. We wanted to know what are some good places to stay in Barcelona? Actual hotels and general area. We are on somewhat of a budget, but would prefer to not have to stay in a hostel. However, we are totally open to ideas. We will also be there over Holy Week, March 28-31. Thank you!
Paige suggest you check out Lonely Planets Thorntree forums, also, its helpful if you tell us your budget in euros per night. "somewhat of a budget" is way to vague,, some people would take that to mean under 75 euros a night, others might think thats under 200 euros a night.
Pat's right, both about Thorntree - which caters to a younger group - and about budgets. There is a wide range here. We stayed at Hostal Campi. They are in a great location, a block from the Ramblas and two blocks from Placa Catalunya. We stayed in a good size double (bathroom not ensuite) for about 60 euro per night. If I were traveling with four girls, I'd prefer multiple bathrooms down the hall to one ensuite. FYI, a hostal in Spain is a small hotel. They also have hostels (note the e vs. a at the end) that are what you expect from a hostel, and hotels (note the s goes away) that are what you would expect from a larger hotel.
Sorry for being so vague about the budget! We would like to have $50-$65 american dollars per person per night, so about $200-$260 would be ideal. We have been looking into staying at private residents condo rentals, but we aren't completely sure where a good area to stay would be. Would anyone recommend we continue looking at the condos or would a hostel be better? And where? Thank you all again.
You state that you will be traveling through Europe for 14 days and will be spending 3 of those days in Barcelona. How many more places do you plan on seeing with the remaining 11 days? You should remember that every change of location usually requires most of one day. You can order RS Guide Books for both Spain and Barcelona elsewhere on this web site. Both are full of useful information that we used when visiting Barcelona (and Madrid). Good luck and happy traveling.
Barcelona is a good place to use Priceline. A couple of years ago we got a 4 star hotel for $90/night on July 2 (for two) near the port and La Rambla. Also, check reviews on Trip Advisor for lower priced hotels.
