Would it be difficult to sightsee in Florence without being on a guided tour. About how much money do you need for entrance into the museums? thanks for your help.

On seeing Florence, I would do it on foot by yourself. Get a good city map and just walk the city, stopping/starting when you want. The little shops are great to wander through and you might find bargains. Be warned-there are a lot of "sales persons" on the street, selling fake handbags, fake watches, etc. If you stop and look, you will be swarmed.
Florence is a lovely city to visit on foot and I don't think it's necessary to be on a guided tour since it's one of these cities where the best you have to do is feel and enjoy the atmosphere. When in older town center, do not hesitate to push some doors, many old doors open on beautiful courtyards that you can just enjoy looking at from the door. Enjoy Florence it is such a beautiful city!!
Hi Betty- you dont need a guided tour. Just buy a RS book on Florence from US. I got mine in Florence for 20 euro - much higher than I would have paid in US.
RS book gives a good explanation as if you are on a physical tour. We just followed the RS tour on Uffizi and we loved it. Accademia David is overrated museum- the only art piece is MA's David- so skip it if you can and watch the replica on the Palazzio signoria
Thank you so much for the information on Florence. It is very helpful. Betty
