My cruise ship will be docking in Monaco for one day. Need help figuring out must-do things in Monaco/Monte Carlo. Any help would be much appreciated

Go to www.visitmonaco.com for info. Actually, there isn't all that much to see in Monte Carlo, but you could take a bus or train to Nice or Cannes. From Nice you could visit the perched village of Eze. Your ship probably offers an excursion to Eze & Nice, but you can do it on your own for a very few euros. Hope you have a fine time.

For things to see in Monaco I would recommend the Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium plus one or more of the gardens listed on the site Norma gave you.

You can travel along the Moyenne (middle) Corniche on bus #112 directly from Monaco to Eze-le-Village, one of the most visited perched hilltop villages in France. You'll be high enough to have some great views. Continue on to Nice on the same bus line, walk around Vieux Nice (the old town), and take either bus #100 or a train back to Monaco.

And I believe the buses that Tim mentions cost only 1 euro per person per trip.

Faisal - A number of GREAT choices in Monte Carlo - Monte Carlo itself - very interesting - the streets, the Casino, etc, Nice - A short 20 minute bus ride to the old town with it's flower market and produce market and many shops, Cannes, A bit longer but doable depending on how long the ship is in Monte Carlo, The Medieval Village of Ez - A Fascinating village with Spectacular View, perfumerias, cafes, shops. 20 minutes from Monte carlo by bus or train.

Enjoy Monte Carlo Stop

Not knowing what your schedule is like...but...on top of the village of Eze is a cactus garden that offers a panoramic view of the Mediterranean. If it's open late (the hours change depending on the time of year you're there), try to be there as the sun is setting into the Med. It's beautiful. Bring along a bottle of Pernod (or any other brand of pastis), some water, glasses and good friends. A great way to start the evening.

Faisal,

In addition to the Oceanographic Museum suggested in a previous post, there's also the Changing of the Guard at the Royal Palace in Monaco, that takes place every day at 11:55 (with all the usual pomp and ceremony, complete with a marching band). Many people also like to visit the Church where Princess Grace and Prince Rainier are interred (NO photos allowed in the back of the Church).

Monte Carlo is on the "opposite hill" from Monaco, which is where the famous Casino is located. You can't miss it with the green-domed roof. Note that a dress code is in effect, so you won't get too far inside if you're not properly attired (shorts and a cruise shirt WON'T make the grade!). You'll also see the Bleachers where spectators sit for the Formula Races.

When your ship docks, check to see if Lady Moura is docked there. A very impressive yacht indeed, and definitely a cut above the others!

You could also take a trip to Villefranche, Eze or Nice, depending on which places interest you the most. I'm sure the cruise line will be offering shore excursions, so you'll have to decide whether you want to take one of those or travel on your own. One benefit of taking trips organized by the cruise line is that you can be sure they'll get you back to the ship in time for departure (whereas if you're on your own and not too familiar with local transportation, this could be a problem).

Happy travels!

Greg's comment about Eze being "20 minutes from Monte Carlo by bus or train" is a bit misleading. As I said in my previous post, bus #112 goes along the Moyenne Corniche between Monaco and Nice and stops at Eze-le-Village. There is another Eze, Eze-Bord-de-Mer, which is on the coast directly below the perched village of Eze. It's possible to get to coastal Eze by train as well as bus, but then it would be necessary to take a ride uphill on a different bus to get to Eze-le-Village.
