Hi Sarah,
You've got a couple different route options, but most of them will take you near/through Slovenia. I'd definitely recommend doing some research on Bled (resort), Postojna, Predjama, and Skocjan (caves).
You could also go up and around through Vienna, Salzburg (or Switzerland). LOTS of great stuff to see, and beautiful drive(s)!!
