We stayed in Aix last year for several days as a "base camp" for Provence. It was awesome! We stayed at Les Clos des Freres Gris. You can google them and check out their website and feedback via Trip Advisor. I would strongly recommend them, although there are less expensive options, the experience was well worth it. From this base, we went to Chateanuef du Pape, the hill towns of Provence and down to Cassis. We saw both Arles and Avignon. Yes, we had to drive, but we enjoyed it very much!
