It can be done, but with difficulty.
The first train out of Paris to Vimy leaves at 10:22 am, with a change in Arras, and arrives in Vimy around 12:30 pm. Tickets can be had for as low as 18 Euro. Vimy Ridge itself is 5 or 6 kilometers away, so you'll have to get a cab there...and hope he'll come back to pick you up when you want to leave.
The latest you could leave Vimy would be at 6:30 bound for Bruges, and the journey takes about 3 hours. You make transfers in Lens, Lille (45 minute wait at the Lille Flandres station), and Kortrijk...a pretty straight line, but local regional trains for the most part. This is for a weekday....on weekends, it can't be done.BTW, intercity buses are not common.
