i am not catholic, but i enjoyed fatima when we visited about 7 years ago. we walked around, lit a candle, just absorbed the essence. that's what i do in any spiritual location.

I was there Oct 2006 on pilgrimage day which is once a month. It can be very crowded so if this is your choice go in afternoon when crowds are lighter. I would stay outside of town for lodging as it is very touristy with catholic souvenir shops and bus loads there to stay overnight. I thought that part was very commercial, tacky and disrespectful. It is a wonderful place to visit and pray once you reach the Church plaza. Do not miss the roundabout with Mary and children made of stone and marble, very beautiful.
