Is it possible to do the Berner Oberland in 3 days?? My parents and I decided to do 3 days before going to Spain. What towns would you reccommend seeing and where to spend our nights at. Thanks!!!
Brendon, Yes, it is possible to "do" the Berner Oberland in three days, but I suppose that depends on what you want to see. Mürren or Lauterbrunnen would make good "home base" areas for visiting the region. Mürren is somewhat of a favourite, as it's a very scenic town. I'd suggest having a look at the Switzerland Guidebook to get some idea on the activities available in that area, so that you can plan your activities for three days. How are you getting to Spain? You'll need to allow adequate time to get to and from the Berner Oberland. Happy travels!
Yes, three days is fine. I would suggest staying in Lauterbrunnen because it offers the best access to both sides of the valley. Muerren, while beautiful, requires you to go down, through Lauterbrunner, and up the other side to reach Wengen and Jungfrau. The Muerren side has Muerren and Shilthorn.
Yes, if you mean 3 full days. But if its the often cited "3 days and 2 nights" that really only gets you one full day with two part days and, in my opinion, wouldn't suffice. The logistics of arriving and departing take too much of the time. Also, I agree with David's thinking about staying in Lauterbrunnen. Happy travels.
As always, it depends on if the weather cooperates. If you have good weather, unless you're there for some heavy-duty hiking, climbing or skiing, one full day is enough.
Galen raises an excellent point. However, if you are trying to maximize pleasure time and minimize travel time, Switzerland is about as good as it gets. From your post, I am assuming you will arrive by air someplace in Switzerland and depart for Spain. You can go to the Swiss or German rail site and find train connections. Don't worry about close connections. We went from Lauterbrunnen to Saltzburg and made something like 5 or 6 changes with layovers ranging from 3 to 10 minutes. No problems.
Yes, you can do Berner Oberland in 3 days. Lauterbrunnen is a wonderful town; we stayed there two years ago and its a good base for exploring the area including the Jungfrau-but that is almost a full day trip. I hope you enjoy the area!
My wife and I spent 3 nights in Murren last August on our honeymoon and loved staying high up in the mountains. We stayed at the Hotel Alpina and had a balcony that literally looked right down to Lauterbrunnen and the valley floor below. While Lauterbrunnen is more convenient, I would definitely stay in Murren again if I were to visit a second time. The views from Murren are amazing.
