Because of a schedule change I have found myself arriving in Amsterdam with 4 days until the rest of my family arrives. I plan to go to Switzerland to visit some friends near Zurich and would like to do day trip on Wed and Thurs while they are at work. Any suggestions? I have been to the Appenzel area so would like to go west. Thought about coming in on the west side for the first night but seem to be having a problem getting responses for a place to stay for one night.

Not sure I can suggest anything at this time; my wife, another couple and I will be looking for a base hotel near Freiburg for one day excursions. We are doing the Bernina Express from Italy then to Freiburg to visit relatives and the sites. You might consider a train ride for a destination get there for a night and head back.

Thanks. Things seem to be working out better to just day trip from Zurich. Finding a one night accomodation doesn't seem to be working. I'll just have to go again when I have more time. Meanwhile a Rhine cruise, etc. will do. Have a great trip - how lucky to be in a small group.

Lucerne is an easy and worthwhile day trip by train from Zurich.
