3 Days in Southeast France

Hi all First, thanks for all your help on other questions and this one. We will be in southeast France on October 20, and leave from Geneva on the 24th. Any ideas? We will be in Paris the week before. We won't be too far from Dijon, Beaune, that area on October 20. We won't have a car, so train would be essential. Thanks!

Basing in Beaune and visiting villages around Beaune is great fun and drive. Think wine/vineyards, views, charming villages, ruins castles, local gourmet cafes.very french and lovely countryside & Vezelay!
Colmar is also another good base and visit villages outside of Colmar, there are many.

SE france is like Avignon and Nice. I assume that is not what you mean. Beaune makes a great base for Burgundy, but it would get awfully old in 3 days without a car (unless you like to bicycle, rentals available). So you might consider either (1) renting a car for 2 of the 3 days and seeing the sights, or (2) adding a destination. Candidates for (2) are Lyon or one of the towns in the Jura. Either would be closer to Geneva than Beaune. For the Jura, perhaps Dole or Besancon. Haven't been to either, alas, but I mean to some day. If you prefer urban to bucolic, spend the whole time in Lyon.

I just want to add that Lyon is my favorite city in France besides Paris. It just has a very nice vibe, and (for me) would be preferable to staying in a small town for a few days with no car. Many seem to like Dijon; I didn't care for it, and found Beaune just OK (the Hotel-Dieu in Beaune was quite interesting, though).
