Next June my parents and I will be heading back to Europe. We well be leaving Paris and renting a car at the airport and planning ro drive to Rouen and Honfleur for one day and spending the night in Honfleur. Next day, we will drive from Honfleur to Caen and seeing Omaha and Utah beach and then seeing the Museum and maybe Bayeux if we have time and spending the night there. Last day we will be driving to San St Michel and spending the night in Dinan. Is this too much and should we drive back to Paris in the morning and then go to Interlaken by train???
Have you thought about spending more time in Bayeux rather than in Caen? Many people feel the museum in Bayeux is a lot better, and many of the tours leave from here. The town itself is very charming and beautiful, as it didn't get bombed in the war. Lots of wonderful B&B's there too.
We visited all of your destinations two years ago- I think your itinerary sounds good. Possible additions: Jumieges Abbey (day 1) and St. Malo (day 3). St. Malo is a much more vibrant town than Dinan. If you like livlier evenings, you might want to visit Dinan, then overnight in St. Malo.
I recommend the WWII museum in Bayeux instead of the one in Caen, as Jo said. It is much better, and less expensive. I would skip Caen and spend more time in Bayeux, it's a charming town. We've stayed at Hotel D'Argouges in Bayeux many times, love it. The owner, Mme Ropartz, and all of her staff are wonderful. It's in the town center, has a beautiful garden and parking.
