Just moved to Brussles looking for a great weekend trip. Any suggestions. We want to drive. I have already done Paris and Brugge. Looking at Germany or Luxemborg. I have a 9 year old daughter so need something to keep her interest also. Thanks for any and all suggestions
If you head into Germany, your daughter may enjoy Phantasialand, which is an amusement park near Bonn. And if she likes this sort of thing, definately take her to Efteling in the Netherlands. These aren't so much recommendations for a specific 3 day trip, but just some family-friendly stuff that you can find within an hour or two of Brussels to consider in the future. Zoos- Anterwerp Zoo, Plankendaal, Olmense Zoo... and I forget the name of the other one, but it's somewhere near Tournai and they're about to recieve a panda from China. Belgian coast- I recommend De Haan or De Panne. Also check out Domburg at the tip of Zeeland province in the Netherlands. Domein Bokrijk, between Hasselt and Genk. Has one of the best open-air folk museums in Europe and a HUGE playground. If you haven't visit yet, go to MiniEurope before it closes permanently (although I believe they found an alternative spot to relocate it). If she would enjoy a canoe or kayak trip, the town of Durbuy in the Ardennes is well known as a good starting point for this sort of activity.
