3 day spain itinerary - post RS tour

Hello: We are taking the Madrid/Barcelona tour Sunday, Sept. 26- Sunday a.m. Oct. 3. We are not returning to the states until the afternoon of Oct. 6, from Madrid. We would love suggestions as to how to spend those 3 days. Our preference would be to base ourselves somewhere and take day trips. My hunch is that we may have had enough of bustly cities by the end of the tour but I may be wrong. We are major food and wine buffs, and also like history and culture.

Thanks.

I really loved Zaragoza, Spain. It's right between Madrid and Barcelona. It has a beautiful cathedral, a Moorish palace (Aljaferia) and a few Roman ruins. The square in front of the cathedral is one of my favorites in the world, and it's a great city to just wander through for a day or so.

Since you're already in Madrid, you can take a day trip to Segovia, and possibly one to Avila.
Since your tour ends after breakfast on the third, you might also want to consider an overninight to Sevilla or Cordoba. Cordoba's only 2 hours away....Sevilla 2.5 hours...by fast AVE train. You can book 62 days in advance at www.renfe.es for as low as 27 Euro O/W to Cordoba, 33 Euro to Sevilla. If you don't want to overnight, you could, with some advance planning, do a very long day trip to either city.
