Can you take a train from Barcelona to Tarifa and is there a train from Tarifa to Nerja? If not, does the Eurail pass work on the bus? Also, how many hours by train is it from Nimes to Barcelona?

The closest train station is at Algeciras. Take a bus from there to Tarifa. For train timetables go to www.bahn.de. After you get summary timetables for Barcelona-Algeciras, click on the arrow on the left side of each route to see the connecting points. A good choice might be to take the night train from Barcelona to Madrid for your first leg.
There is no train service to Nerja.
A Eurail pass does NOT work on the bus.
According to the timetables at www.bahn.de, depending upon the time of day, the route, and the type of trains taken, Nimes-Barcelona is 5 to 7 1/2 hours.

Hi John
There is no train to Tarifa. Last year we went by train from Granada to Algeceras, then you take a bus to Tarifa. The bus takes about 30 minutes I recall, comfortable and inexpensive. There is a large bus terminal in Algeceras where you can purchase tickets. You can also go online to search for the schedule to Tarifa. Tarifa is a great spot for some r and r plus a day trip to Tangier, Morocco.
