A girlfriend and I are staying in Frankfurt for about six days...we want to cruise the Rhine for a day trip. What is the best way to go about finding an affordable fun riverboat ride? Where should we start? Mainz?
Hello Kaitland. For most people, I think the segment of the Rhine river from Bingen to St. Goar is enough. Riding on the boat, you will see Medieval castles on hills. Go on a K-D ship. It is one of the world's great boat rides, especially when the sun is shining. People who have a Germany rail pass can ride on the ship for free.
Ron thank you for your advise! We are staying with my aunt, would we be able to use her rail pass? Which company should we go through? There are only 2 of us and all the ones I have found are for groups.
I have taken the S-bahn from Frankfurt up to Mainz and gotten on the boat there. K-D and Primus are the ones you should be looking at. You can pick and choose and go as far as you want. If your Aunt has a pass (Bahn Card?), it will be in her name and not transferable. When will you be coming to Frankfurt? Spring, summer, fall?
I will be coming the beginning of June.
Hi kaitlin, so much can be done by ship in june. Check rick's links for shiplines and schedules. Plan a ship day picnic. Remember dinner or lunch option trips too this time of year. Also a train trip can quickly connect with ship downstream returns to frankfurt.
