I was read in a "Europe by train" book that Eurail pass cannot be used on high speed trais and only give you a discount off the price of a ticket. Can you use the high speed trains as one of your travel days (reserving a seat) or do you have to buy another ticket?
It's been awhile but as I recall we had to pay a supplement to reserve a seat on a high speed train from Hannover to Berlin using our Eurail pass. Traveling on a high speed train does count as one of your travel days on your Eurail pass. The supplemental charge wasn't alot and saved hours of travel time. If you are traveling in Italy, land of constant rail strikes, you'll be pleased to learn that the rail strikes don't usually impact the high speed trains. My information is dated so hopefully others will chime in here.
The country they were talking about was Spain.
