Paris for New Years

Has anyone been to Paris for New Years? Just wondering what you did to ring in the new year. Moulin Rouge is too expensive ($700/person for the NYE show) and there are no longer fireworks. Apparently most people gather on the Champs Elysee and drink champagn. If anyone has any recommendations I would appreciate.

We were there some yrs ago. It snowed so we toasted with champagne cooled on our hotel window ledge and strolled the lovely streets. It was quiet, cold but tranquil and to be remembered. I would stroll the seine river to eiffel tower and give thanks for celebrating in such a lovely city!
