I have heard that Paris Metro Carte Orange passes are being phased out? (In favor of an electronic pass like London's Oyster card) Is the Carte Orange still available? Does anyone know if they will be availabe through the end of June?
This question came up on the Fodors forum last week. People who had been in Paris as recently as two weeks ago said they were able to buy a Carte Orange.
Are the regular Carte Orange passes still available as of now (end of September 2007)? Again, I heard that it was now necessary to buy a separate electronic card and then purchase the Carte Orange for it, kind of like buying minutes on a phone card.
The standard Carte Orange is still listed on www.ratp.fr, the Transports de Paris site. On another board I read a post from a resident of Paris saying that it probably will be a year before the standard CO is phased out.
My daughter and I just bought ours in Paris last week at a Tabac. No problem. They sure are an incredible advantage.
