Anyone have any suggestions on a clean, well located, inexpensive-ish hotel/hostel/b&b? I would pay up to about $150/night for a double room. Of course, the cheaper, the better. Thanks.
stella we just left munich two days ago, we stayed in an appartment, about 5 min from city center by subway. it had a bedroom-living room, kitchen and bathroom, washing machine. it was close to many supermarket, laundry, restaurants. we loved it, it was very clean the host was very nice and it had wireless internet if you have your own laptop. we paid 60 euros (more on oktoberfest) per night. we would definitely go again. www.zimmer-guenstig.de/home-eng/home-eng.html
hope this help!
Thanks Martine! That sounds incredible. We are going in May. It might still be more expensive but not Oktoberfest at least! I will check it out.
Hotel Ludwig opposite the train station. Tourist class hotel. Clean, pvt bath, good location.
Another suggestion is the Y believe it or not. It was clean, modern, decorated nicely, came with a great breakfast and great walking location from both the train and to the main part of sightseeing in the city. Plus it is quite reasonable and everyone spoke English (THink it's the CVJM or some configuration of those letters). Have fun. We loved Munich.
My daughter and I(I was 65)stayed here. Even tho I was a senior citizen, I did not feel out of place. Just get a double (private) room. Our room had a toliet and shower.
This hostel in around the corner from the main train station....easy walking distance.

I must add that it was very clean and had a nice breakfast.

I stayed at the Herzog-Wilhelm Hotel in Munich in February of this year. It was very clean, close to the city center and had an amazing breakfast - probably the best I had during all my travels in Germany. The rooms ranged in price, but we had a great deal in February. Rooms were well maintained, although small. The staff were very kind and helpful. I really enjoyed my stay there. Check them out at Herzog-Wilhelm.de
using the ETBD book in 2001, I stayed with my son at the YWCA! it was really a bargain, safe and cheap. They don't allow unmarried couples..
we try Munich for Oktoberfest, and of coourse didn;t find a room. we opted for Dachau and what a great decision!!! It's about 8 stops from Munich main train station (15-20 minutes). For us, young couple, was a great experience. Beautiful neighborhood, very pleasant walk to the train station, bus stop in front of the hotel if you prefer not to walk to the station, cozy ambiance, JUST GREAT! We're still in Europe, and by now, is one of the hotels that's going to bring great memories in the future.
PS great breakfast, 95 EUR/night

And you can go to the Dachau Memorial Site
