Are there any suggestions for a good travel insurance in case one gets sick in Europe or worse and needs to get home for medical reasons. Thank you in advance for your help.
Here's the link to the website used by many travelers, and recommended by Rick, that allows you to comparison shop for travel insurance, including traveler's medical coverage: www.insuremytrip.comYou can save a lot of money by checking only the box for travelers medical and medical evacuation, since that's all you want.
I used to buy AIG Travelguard as I heard it was the favored (prior was using Access America) but am obviously a little concerned now. I am familiar with Insuremytrip but does anyone have personal experiences to share? Does anyone feel strongly (positive or negative) about a particularly company/plan? I have never had to claim and hope I never do, but do not want to find out the hard way.
Thanks!
Don't leave home without it. Buy your Travel Insurance at the time you book your tour or buy your plane tickets.
AIG underwrites a lot of travel insurance policies for other companies as well. I've purchased medical/evacuation policies from a bunch of different web sites over the years, and if you look at the fine print on the policy you will usually see the words "AIG". Next time I need to purchase insurance I'm going to be sure to ask beforehand if AIG is involved.
Linda....Be sure to fully understand what type of assistance is promised. Several of the policies promising 'evacuation' are not going to bring you home to the USA but are offering to get you to a location that THEY feel is qualified to treat you.
I heard the AIG issue regarding insurance discussed on network news yesterday, and they said that funds to cover insurance policies were required by law to be held separately from other funds. The expert that was speaking said that there is no reason to be concerned about AIG's insurance function.
I have always used Travelguard and would have no reservation about using them again.
