Two things please:
I'm looking for things to see and do NOT found in the guide books, and, anything specific to do in November? I'm actually staying in Tarragona but will have a car for day trips with several visits into Barcelona. Thoughts anyone?
Do visit Girona. For me it was a real highlight, and I practically had it to myself. The Let's Go guidebook I was using at the time called it "a world class city patiently waiting for the world to notice" and they were 100% right.
Visit Cap Roig Definitely not on the tourist route, but definitely worth the effort to get there. Magnificent gardens of a formerly private residence located directly on the sea coast. It is in a residential area, with ample public parking. Check out its web site. In the general area where you will be visiting.
I second a visit to Girona - so many nooks and corners to poke around in. And, as we were driving over to Cadaques, we stopped in this gorgeous village for lunch - Peratallada. Google the images of it. All stony arches & passageways & ivy-covered walls - the whole thing looked like a movie set. It was the unexpected delight of our trip.
Figueres, Spain....House of Salvador Dali..worth seeing, built almost on the sea...Check out a site for it. You will need reservations as only a few people are admitted each hour. The drive along the coast to it is fantastic.
