My husband and I are flying into Barcelona June 22 and leaving out of Frankfurt July 5. We have planned to stay the first few days on the Costa Brava and then we will make our way to Munich and Frankfurt in the second week. We've been to Barcelona before and had wanted to go to check out France during this trip. I'm somewhat overwhelmed because I've only been to Europe twice (Spain and Italy) but my husband has been there a million times. Any advice on things we should see while we're there? Thanks!
Amy, there are several main routes from Barcelona to Frankfurt you could follow. I'll try to summarize the main ones for you:1) The Classical one: Barcelona - the Roussillon region - Sete, Montpellier, Pont du Gard, Avignon - Lyon - Loire Valley - Alsace (Strasbourg) - Black Forrest (Germany) - Heidelberg - Frankfurt.2) The Western one: Barcelona - Rioja Valley - Santander, San Sebastian (Pais Vasco) - Biarritz (France) - Bordeux and La Dordogne - Tour, Angers, Loire Valley - Paris - Champagne (the region and origin of the beverage) - Metz - Heidelberg - Frankfurt3) The Alpine one: Barcelona - Roussillon - Sete, Pont du Gard, Avignon - Lyon, Grenoble - Geneva - Lausanne & Montreux (Switzerland) - Interlaken, Mürren, Berner Oberland - Basel - Black Forrest - Heidelberg - Frankfurt. What do you think?
Andreas has some great ideas. The only thing that I will add would be skip Munich. It's too far out of your way, to the east. Save it for another trip.
Thank you so much! These tips are very helpful. Also, we have to make a trip to Stuttgart to visit a family member. We were planning on doing this toward the end of the trip. Any tips/advice on incorporating this into the adventure? Many Thanks! Amy
Amy, Heidelberg to Stuttgart is some 60 minutes by train. You could easily add this into your schedule. The train ride from Stuttgart to Frankfurt is also just some 90 minutes. Depending on route you could do Black Forrest - Stuttgart - Heidelberg - Frankfurt.
