I want to spend May and June 2012 in Spain to really experience the culture and also thought that it would make it more affordable, but so far to my surprise that doesn't seem to be the case. My plan was to spend a month in Madrid and a month in Sevilla and travel to regions around each of these areas. I have look at a fair number of websites and the cost for a week or a month is usually a cost based on euros per day (50+ euros) so no savings. Any suggestions for finding an apartment for 2? Nothing fancy just safe, clean, quiet and within reasonable walking distance from transportation. Would it be better to get there and look? Any direct contacts would also be helpful. Lastly, does this travel plan staying in 2 places make sense?

Is that 50 E per person or for both? These are large, popular cities. Your plan to use them as hubs for travel makes sense, but costs in Madrid and Sevilla would be higher than in smaller towns. You might try studying the Let's Go book for Spain. The Let's Go books are aimed at a younger crowd with tighter budgets. You may find hostels, etc, that will fit your budget.

Not at the moment, because I do not grasp what you intend to do with the two bases. Neither have you advised where you have on your wish list. Are these trips from these bases and return the same day or something else?
Have you looked at Homelidays. http://homelidays.com/ I have had great success with them in the past. Just be sure to read all the information given and do NOT assume. John We stayed in this ladies apt. Email her and ask for rates for a month. It was a wonderful apt. Roseta Gómez([email protected])
