2 days near Marseilles

I'm flying into MRS on a Wed. at the end of Aug. and must be in L'Isle sur la Sorgue by Friday afternoon. I was thinking to stay in Aix for 2 days to go to the marche and just hang out getting over the jet lag. But would somewhere else be better? I won't have a car so would have to be reachable by train.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Aix would be a great place to chill out for a couple of days. It has a few things to see in-town, but you could also be very happy hitting the marche and hanging out at cafes and just wandering around. Another option near Marsielle for "chilling out" is the nearby seaside town of Cassis. It's about 30 minutes by train, although you'll want to note that there is a somewhat infrequent shuttle bus from the train station into town, so you'll want to keep an eye on the schedule of the bus for returning to go back through Marsielle and onto your destination. Marsielle itself isn't a terrible option either. It's got a bad rap but I really enjoy it. Fantastic restaurants, the fish market, the impressive neo-Byzantine churches, hanging out at a cafe at the Planier quarter...hotels are cheap there, too, relative to the area around it.

I would second Cassis. And also spending some time in Marseilles itself.
