Where would be the best town/area to see for a couple of days. Also what is the best train route through the Alps
Lake Constance and Zermatt are two of my favorite places in CH. They are so very different though. Train through the Alps, east/west? or north/south?
Hello. We took the William Tell boat/ train tour through the Alps. That started in Lucerne by boat. Then we got on a train and went to Lugano. When we left Lugano after four days, we took the Bernina Express. It was part bus around Lake Maggiorre and then train back to Zurich. You have to have quite a few days to go through the Alps though. THere are a number of rail trips through the Alps. We loved both our train trips. Elaine
Hello Jason Again. We stayed in Zurich for a few days. We also stayed in Lucerne and did day trips to Bern and up into the Alps. Lucerne is a good place for a base. Unfortunately so many people smoke there. The smoking ruined our trip. They smoke everywhere, even with children in their arms. Lucerne is a quaint place to visit. Zurich is pretty, but not very inviting to travelers.
I think with only two days the logistical relationship to the rest of your itinerary is very pertinent. I wouldn't say, for instance, the Berner Oberland if you are traveling from Vienna to Venice. Pick a place that works with your itinerary.
