I'm going to France at the end of August for 16 days. I'll have a fabulous 10-11 days in my favorite town, L'Isle-sur-la-Sourge, then some free days, followed by the TGV to Paris for 3 days, and home. I love the Luberone, but maybe something different for those in between days??? My favorite things are markets, brocante and cafe sitting. Where should I go?
Thanks in advance.
If I were you, I would check on the market days around the city you are taking the TGV from. When we were there last, in 2007, we really enjoyed the market in St. Remy, and I recall liking the market in Aix en Provence (way back from my first visit in 2003). It's obviously been a while, so things might have changed. On our last visit, we really enjoyed the cities of Arles and Nimes for their Roman sights, though I recognize that wasn't one of the interests you mentioned. Alternatively, you could go further south to Marseilles and Cassis and see the coast. Or, for a non-Provencal feel, you could start your journey up to Lyon, which is a close trip from Avignon. We haven't visited Lyon but plan to on our next trip. Enjoy your trip to France; it sounds like you are returning to a region you really love!
Thanks for your reply, Becca.
I'm leaning toward St. Remy/Arles, and taking the TGV to Paris from Nimes. I've been to Cassis and it's mavelous. I don't care much for Lyon. Whatever happens , I know I'm going to have fun because I LOVE FRANCE!
