Jackie.....most of the sights to see are in the eastern part of Malaga, the old town area. You can walk to almost everything once you get down there. The highlight of the old city is the Alcazaba, the Moorish fortress started in 1065. Inside is a museum with Phoenician artifacts, and just outside is a small Roman ampitheatre. Up on the hill behind the Alcazaba is an old Moorish castle that is now a Parador....great, tho expensive, place for lunch...you go for the views. To the west of the Alcazaba is the massive cathedral, called The One-Armed Woman (La Manquita) because they ran out of money before they could finish both bell towers. In the maze of streets to the west of the cathedral are dozens of restaurants and tapas bars, with fish and seafood the prime ingredients. To the north of the Cathedral is the Pablo Picasso museum....Malaga was his birthplace (Antonio Banderas was also born here, BTW). Shopping can be had at the boutiques along Calle Marques de Larios, a pedestrian street to the west of the restaurant area. To me, that's about the limit of the "tourist" things to do in Malaga. There is a Hop-on/Hop off bus tour....worth it if you want to get up to the Parador/castle, since that's quite a hike. See http://www.malaga-tour.com/malaga/infomalaga_ing.html . If you go to http://tinyurl.com/6dfpd2 , you'll see a google map that I've specially designed with all the attractions pinpointed...switch on the satellite view, and you'll swear that you're already there!
Norm,
You never cease to amaze me with all your helpful posts, and the map of Malaga, WOW! Could you do one for Lisbon, Salema, Sevilla, Arcos de la Frontera, Zahara, Grazalema, Ronda, and Granada and all the other places I am going? Just kidding!
