my husband and i would like to travel from the black forest region to salzburg, vienna, then krakow. where should we fly into; should we drive, and if so, are there any difficulties with picking up/dropping off a car? any recommendations/suggestions (must-sees, eats, hotels)? modus operendi= best and cheapest!

The first thing I'd suggest is that a trip could be planned better if either the Black Forest or Krakow were saved for another time. If you dropped Krakow, you could fly into Frankfurt and return from Vienna. You could also fly roundtrip Munich. Bavaria and Austria are best seen by car. If you dropped the Black Forest, flying roundtrip Vienna would work best. This trip would work better using the train.

We will separate the travel, as you suggest, as I know there's lots to see in Poland alone. I did wonder about the train, and will look into that and the car option for Bavaria and Austria. I appreciate your help!
