Is there an age limit to gamble at the casino(s) in Monte Carlo? I've seen Rick mention you have to be 21 but nowhere else even seems to mention an age limit. Anybody know from experience?
21 and proper attire (no jeans or shorts). Bring your passport to prove, believe it or not, that you are not a citizen of Monaco.
I went to experience the Casino Royale when visiting the French Riviera last summer with my daughter. The RS book for Provence and the Riviera was very helpful. She was 24 at the time, but looks younger and neither of us were asked for ID.
I believe it is a very different experience during the day than in the evening and we were there in the former, just to see it, after touring the palace and aquarium and jardins exotiques- all would be great with famiy members of all ages, BTW!
Anyway, there were two sort of bodyguard looking guys at the main entry. They barely glanced at us. I was dressed in a knee- length jersey skirt and not skimpy tank top (this was late July) and my daughter was in a sundress. Their attention was diverted by some teen-aged girls in very short shorts and tiny tank tops, as well as an older man in a fishnet tank top! I don't know whether they turned them away. But you don't have to be dressed up in the daytime and if you are only checking out the lobby. Also
sorry- part 2- about the gambling. The doors to the private rooms on the first floor were closed and definitely there was a "don't go near here" vibe even without bodyguards. But just off the entrance there is a big room packed with all sorts of electronic slot machines. Again, nobody asked to see ID of any kind and we had agreed to play with 5 euro and see what happened. We lost! But if you have younger people in your party you might investigate this option for them.
We weren't there too long- people watching out front was more fun and we spent longer at that. I don't think we were in the casino for more than half an hour, there is not that much to see if you aren't seriously gambling!
Hi Mick,
... what I know from experience is:- the odds are never on your side, regardless of age...
... bon chance! P
thanks for the quick response.
Monte Carlo is not the user-friendly kind of experience that Las Vegas is, for those of us regular folks in t-shirts, shorts and running shoes--there just that one big room, Vegas in a room, which is insulting if you've been to Vegas.
