Barcelona

I posted once before on being IN Barcelona, but now it looks like I will have one more day than I originally thought. Should I spend that day in Barcelona itself? or is there somewhere easily accessible nearby that is worth seeing? maybe a nice beach or other sights? Or should I just stay in Barcelona for the extra day? Any thoughts/ideas would be great. Thanks!

We really enjoyed our trip Montserrat. You can get a package train/cable car ticket at the train station. Once there, you can see the site and take the funicular up to the top and do a little bit of hiking - either easy or strenuous - your choice. The view is amazing. Depending on the weather, the beach is also a good option.

Nicole,

You've gone from 1 1/2 days to 2 1/2 days. Trust me you will not have exhausted your curiosity about Barcelona. Many people feel that Barcelona is worth more than a week (I have been there 5 separate times for a cumulative 20 days). If you take the time to really explore and discover the city, you will end up wishing you had more time there.

I'm with Bill on this one, the extra day will merely make your all-too-brief taste of Barcelona a bit less stressful. Treat yourself to an hour people watching and writing postcards at a cafe, visit Parc Güell, picnic in the Ciudadella, visit the Chocolate Museum or go watch the skaters jump off of the facade of the modern art museum. Don't waste your time on a train, trying to add one more location to the scorecard.

Nicole,
I agree with the others! Barcelona has so many things to do. Your 1st day do the hop on/hop off and then your 2nd day explore the places you missed.

The walk along the coast is nice, the market off La Rambla is spectacular.

Go to travelchannel.com and check out Samantha Brown's episode. It doesn't do Barcelona justice but it does give you a taste of how much the City has to offer

get a local guide from Pepito Tours, or go on a winery tour outside of town if you like that. Nearby Monserat could be a nice tour too!

You could easily spend days and days in Barcelona but Montserrat was utterly amazing. I went for only 4 hours and was so sad I didn't have a whole day.
