Lucerne Hotels

If you had to rank them, how would you rank Hotel Baslertor, Hotel Hofgarten and Hotel Waldstatterhof? Trying to decide where to stay with my family considering location and cost. Thank you!!

I would stay at the Hotel des Alpes instead...great location and decent price. Check out trip advisor for hotel ratings on the above hotels.

Thanks!! I'm trying!! They are booked solid. The 2008 Euro Championship in June is killing me! Hotel rooms are few and far between unless we go to the $1,000/nt range (we need two rooms). Any suggestions on getting into des Alpes if they are saying they are full?!

June is just around the corner...if you can't get in des Alpes...depending on your budget, you might try Hotel Des Balances...we stayed there last September (couldn't get in Des Alpes)...it's more expensive, but very nice, and it has one of the great restaurants in town.

Allison,
Have you considered the Lucerne Backpackers? It is a very nice hostel where you can get either double or quad rooms for your family at a reasonable price. We are staying there in late July with our two kids. It's worth a try if you are open to that kind of accommodation. The website is www.backpackerslucerne.ch. Good Luck!

Hi Allison,
... we have taken rooms in Hôtel Chateau Gütsch twice and Hôtel Balances twice, too. On another occasion we had a room at Hôtel Spatz - there was not much choice in hotels that time. Keep in mind, it's a relatively short train ride from Zürich to Luzern where rooms may be a little less expensive. We've never been guests at Hôtel Baslertor, Hofgarten nor Waldstatterhof ... no idea how they may compare, one with another.
... Also, on Lake Lucerne there are villages with hotels, which many overlook; the village of Vitznau, for example [Google it - type in Vitznau, CH Hotels]
Transportation from Vitznau is via lake steamer, an inexpensive transit treat in and of itself. You catch the steamer to Vitznau at the dock across the street from the Lucerne train station. There are frequent trips.
... bon voyage! / Gute Reise! P
