14 Day trip-Spain, Southern France, Italy

A friend and I are planning on traveling into Spain and out of Italy on August 14-28, 2010.

We were thinking of flying into Barcelona and out of Rome. Any ideas on itineraries?

We also heard that we should skip Rome all together? I would love to do Spain, Southern France over to Venice, but I am not sure if we have enough time?

Any ideas would really be appreciated!!

Thanks for the info about Rome!

I think we are going to take the train the whole time, in efforts to cut costs.

We definitely want to do Spain and Southern France, but just not sure where to go from there in Italy.

2 weeks should give us plenty of time, I am hoping.

Be sure to check out some flights. I am flying between Granada and Barcelona and it is more that $100 cheaper to fly than take the train. I even paid the extra money to check a bag on Easy Jet.

I will be doing a combo of train and flights in Spain.

You will have a great time. I really enjoyed the Cinque Terra. if you have time for a night or two it might be a good place to get off the train.

I think when Allison says Spain, she really just means Barcelona (it is Spain in only a technical sense).

Though tight, you could do it. Barcelona is a wonderful city and worth a few nights. Southern France could include Avignon and Nice for a couple nights each. Italy could include a few nights in the Cinque Terre and either a couple nights in either Venice or Florence. End in Rome for at least 3 nights. That'll get you 14 days. Whirlwind but very doable.

Who in heck would tell you not to go to Rome? Unless they just thought it was not feasible in this trip?
