Can anyone tell me where one buys tickets for this bus to Atocha Station? Is there a machine or is it possible to buy from the driver?

You just pay the driver when you get on.

Pay as you board the bus....think it is 5 euros...have the euros to use....luggage is inside the bus with you. You will be let out at the main entrance. Less than 20 minutes or so from the airport, with stops at the terminal and then a couple of stops before you reach Atocha. Busses are well marked, but ask to be sure you are at the correct pickup point. Fast and efficient as well..
